PITTSFORD, NY — Friendly Senior Living is proud to announce a new rotating art exhibit featuring the works of local artist Denise Johnson. The exhibit will be hosted at Lily Brook, located at 150 French Road in Pittsford, NY. The collection will be on display from April 7 through June 30, 2026.
Discovering a Passion at Fifty-Three
Denise Johnson’s artistic journey is a testament to the idea that it is never too late to find one’s calling. Although she sketched for fun while raising her children, she did not discover her true ability to paint until she turned 53.
In 2013, her mother, Joanne, invited her to a peer-led painting event. This single moment sparked a decade of creativity. Despite living with Writer’s Cramp — a neurological condition affecting fine motor skills — Johnson found she could translate the “pictures in her heart” into vivid landscapes.
Award-Winning Local Talent
Since discovering her gift, Johnson has become a prominent member of the Pittsford Art Group. Her work has earned significant acclaim, including:
- 2023 & 2024: Juried Merit Awards at the Friendly Home.
- 2016: Honorable Mention at the Artist Row Art Show.
- Local Exhibits: Featured at Barnes & Noble and the Paddle and Pour Art Exhibit.
“I learned I could take the colors and make them come alive,” Johnson says. “I hope my paintings will touch your heart just as they have touched mine.”
