NY Must Provide a 20% Nursing Home Medicaid Rate Increase in Final Budget!

Dear Friends,

After 15 years without an inflation adjustment to Medicaid rates, New York State nursing homes need a 20% increase in order to compete for staff and improve access to quality care for older adults. Since the last time rates were adjusted, costs have risen by 42%!

The Governor’s 2023-24 Budget Proposal includes a 5% increase to the nursing home Medicaid rate. This is a good foundation, but not enough to enable nursing homes to recruit and retain the staff needed to bring more nursing home beds back into operation and reduce strain on the larger health care system.

New York’s nursing home Medicaid rates are among the worst in the country. Fortunately, thanks to advocacy efforts thus far, the Legislature and Governor are aware of the significant funding shortfall. However, as the final budget is negotiated over the coming weeks, we need constituents like you to help keep the pressure on lawmakers and make sure they know that a 5% increase is not enough!!

Please take just a few moments to enter your information to automatically send a message to Governor Hochul and your elected officials expressing your support for a 20% increase in the nursing home Medicaid rate. Simply click here – it’s that easy!

Thank you so much for lending your voices and support for this vitally important advocacy initiative!
