Older Americans Month

May is Older Americans Month. For 55 years, Older Americans Month (OAM) has been observed to recognize older Americans and their contributions to our communities. Led by the Administration for Community Living’s Administration on Aging, every May offers the opportunity to hear from, support, and celebrate our nation’s elders. This year’s OAM theme, “Engage at Every Age,” emphasizes the importance of being active and involved, no matter where or when you are in life. You are never too old (or too young) to participate in activities that can enrich your well-being.

During my time at Cloverwood, I’ve come to know older Americans who are runners, theater buffs, avid gardeners, pet lovers, world travelers, committed volunteers, food and drink enthusiasts, community activists, technical wizards, woodworkers, music appreciators, history experts, collectors, sports nuts, readers, thinkers, writers, and artists. I’ve learned about the many fascinating and accomplished careers of our residents, their dedication to their families, and their passion for living life at every age to the fullest.

It is an honor to work within a community like Cloverwood that promotes the engagement of our residents on every level—physical, creative, emotional, social and spiritual. My admiration and respect for older adults knows no bounds, and every day I am fortunate enough to learn a lesson or two and hear some helpful advice. This month and throughout the year, I encourage everyone to reach out to the older adults in their lives, engage them in conversation, and get to know them as unique and interesting individuals. I guarantee you will be wiser and happier for the experience.

Happy Older Americans Month to all!
