Friendly Senior Living (FSL) has received a $50,000 gift from the William and Sheila Konar Foundation for memory care programming. This gift will allow FSL to continue developing and fostering healthy environments —physical, cognitive and emotional — for individuals living with dementia. Additionally, the grant enables the implementation of training for all key staff to deliver a person-centered care approach, and enhancements of current program structures for dementia care.
Today, FSL serves as a leader in dementia care in the Greater Rochester area. It offers memory care services at the Friendly Home in Brighton and Glenmere at Cloverwood in Pittsford.
“Friendly Senior Living is a leader in the delivery of memory care programming and services,” said Glen Cooper, CEO of Friendly Senior Living. “With generous gifts like this from the Konar Foundation, we are able to continuously improve as we strive to serve our residents who live with dementia, as well as their loved ones, with the very best quality care. Our memory care programs serve individuals in various stages of Alzheimer’s disease and related conditions, offering an ideal balance of personal comfort, independence and safety with warm and compassionate care provided by our highly trained staff. Regardless of where they are in their journey, we will provide the highest quality individualized care for each of our residents living with dementia.”
The William and Sheila Konar Foundation was created for the purpose of improving lives by promoting educational opportunities, access to health care and a more tolerant civil society. The $50,000 grant awarded to FSL reflects the Konar Foundation’s philanthropic mission.
Friendly Home opened its first Alzheimer’s Special Care Unit in 1988, with a second unit serving this population opening in 1994. In 2010, Friendly Home combined the two existing units into one Memory Care Center to best serve and meet the needs of its Members with Alzheimer’s and related memory care issues. The center offers specialized care and programming in a safe, secure and friendly environment for Members in various stages of the disease. Specialized dementia care is also provided by Glenmere at Cloverwood, which opened in 2005.
