Volunteer Spotlight

Annie McGurk

Annie McGurk describes her volunteer service at the Friendly Home as “my way of getting my love bucket filled!” Annie has been part of the Home since her husband, Leon, was a Member here. She says she became friends with “the really, truly fabulous staff and Members” and wanted to continue these special relationships after Leon’s passing. You’ll find Annie every Thursday afternoon providing a helping hand and giving out plentiful hugs at one of our Members’ favorite activities: weekly cocktail hour!

Annie has found that by contributing to our Members’ lives, she’s contributing to her own. “Volunteering makes you a more active person. Plus, the Members have so much to share; they are so giving and incredible. I really have a ball here!”

Annie’s volunteer service at the Friendly Home inspires her grandchildren to give back too. “We just can’t wait for them to be old enough to volunteer here,” she says. “Being with the Members every week feeds me. I love it, and it feels like home to me.”
