June is PRIDE Month!

Throughout the Friendly Senior Living communities, we seek to foster a work environment where everyone feels valued, included, appreciated and accepted. PRIDE month provides an excellent opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to providing a safe and welcoming place for our LGBTQ+ staff, Members, Residents, Patients, family and friends.

During the month of June, we encourage Team Friendly to show their PRIDE by wearing the colors of the rainbow. A little background on how the rainbow became a symbol of LGBTQ+: in 1978, the rainbow flag was created by Gilbert Baker, an artist, designer and veteran of the Vietnam War. Baker was commissioned to design a flag by San Francisco’s gay mayor, Harvey Milk, for the city’s annual PRIDE parade. He chose the rainbow to reflect not only the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community, but also for its natural beauty. In the decades since its first appearance, the rainbow flag has grown in popularity and continues to be a positive symbol around the world.

What do the colors of the rainbow represent?

Red – Life                                                                 Green – Nature

Orange – Healing                                                    Blue – Harmony

Yellow – Sunlight                                                  Violet – Spirit

Friendly Senior Living is proud to join millions of individuals and communities worldwide in celebrating and honoring the diversity, resilience, and contributions of the LGBTQ+ community, during PRIDE month and throughout the year.
