At the Friendly Home, we are focused on our Members’ health and happiness every day. During the holiday season, our Life Enrichment team and the entire Friendly Home staff strive to make this time of year especially enjoyable and meaningful.
Living in a nursing home doesn’t mean giving up cherished traditions! We bake cookies using Members’ favorite recipes, and everyone gets to sample the goodies during our annual cookie exchange. We watch classic holiday movies with loved ones. We sing carols, share stories and memories, decorate trees, and celebrate the season with gatherings of friends and family. We deck the halls with lights, garlands and handmade crafts. We take an evening ride to see the light displays in the community. We attend worship services, wear our holiday attire, and shop for something special for those near and dear to us.
The Friendly Home’s annual Christmas tree decorating contest engages Members, families, staff, volunteers and visitors. Neighborhoods and departments pick a theme for their trees and decorate accordingly; then they are all put on display in the Auditorium. It’s such fun to see the beauty and creativity of each tree, and then vote for our favorite one!
Music is in the air throughout the season. Our talented staff musicians sing with our Members, and we are very fortunate to have many community groups come and perform, ranging from kids to seniors! Neighborhood parties are a festive way for Members, staff and families to spend time together enjoying one another’s company – and a lot of tasty treats too!
We love sharing the holiday season with our Members, bringing them comfort and joy in whatever ways are meaningful to them. From all of us at the Friendly Home, we wish you a wonderful holiday season and very happy new year!
